Research Policies

Johnson & Wales University has established numerous policies and associated procedures governing research activity undertaken by faculty, staff, students, and other associated individuals and entities.  These documents are available to JWU employees in the University Policies folder.

The policies listed below are or are required to be publicly available.

Research Integrity Policy and Procedures

Johnson & Wales University is committed to upholding the highest standards of rigor in research. This institution is committed to fostering an environment that promotes research integrity and the responsible conduct of research, prohibits research misconduct, and deals promptly with allegations or evidence of possible research misconduct.

Johnson & Wales University’s Research Integrity Policy and Procedures sets forth the university’s requirements in these matters. All individuals covered by this policy, as explained within the document’s Scope and Application, are expected to review and follow the guidance.

Financial Conflict of Interest in Research

JWU employees and affiliated individuals must strive to safeguard the university’s financial, legal, and reputational standing, and their own credibility and reputations, by supporting and practicing objectivity while engaged in research activities.

JWU’s policy and procedures for identifying and addressing financial conflict of interest in research, which are based on federal regulations published at 42 CFR Part 50, Subpart F, are intended to honor that commitment. The complete policy, as well as the two-part Disclosure of Significant Financial Interests (SFI) form, can be read in full:

Research Security Training

Federal grantmaking agencies are, or will be, requiring recipients of federal research funding to take steps to protect sponsored research from improper foreign interference, influence, and appropriation in accordance with the National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (NSPM-33) and the security-related provisions under the CHIPS & Science Act.

Institutions accepting federal research funding must require the grant-funded program’s senior/key personnel (at minimum) to complete training in research security. Although timelines and deadlines for research security training (RST) completion vary depending on the sponsor’s implementation plan, JWU is requiring all senior/key personnel to complete RST within twelve months prior to proposal submission or before commencing service on a federally sponsored research project or program, whichever is sooner.

JWU is offering an RST module developed by the NSF SECURE Center in collaboration with NSF, U.S. National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Departments of Energy and Defense. This module, once completed, will fulfill one’s RST requirement and permit proposal submission or engagement on a federally sponsored program or both, depending on one’s circumstances. Please contact JWUSPA@jwu.edu for information on access to the module.

Please complete the RST module prior to proposal submission. To complete the training:

  1. Log in to uKnow using your JWU username and password.
  2. Click on “Courses” in the menu at the left of your screen.
  3. Click on “Research Security Training.”
  4. Click “Start,” and follow the instructions in the Welcome message.
You should receive a certificate at the end to show that you have completed the training. Please send it to JWUSPA@jwu.edu.
