Alana Perino's fine art practice is concerned with home, the nature of belonging, and perceptions of the self. Their work, which spans the genres of photography, sculpture, performance and autofiction, has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally. Their practice has been recognized and supported by institutions such as Aperture Foundation, Lenscratch, Palm Studios and Lensculture. In addition to their artistic pursuits, Perino has worked within the industries of photojournalism, editorial photography, fashion photography, commercial photography as well as exhibition curation and installation. Previously, Perino has taught photographic disciplines of analog and digital technique, portfolio development, bookmaking, history, and theory at Academy of Art University, Harvey Milk Center for the Arts, and Rhode Island School of Design.

Teaching has always been a fundamental part of my professional practice as a photographer. I am invested in the power of visual communication and its inherent connection to literature, philosophy, history and current events and the opportunities afforded by a proficiency in these interrelated languages.
